As the final class project, students from Shaul Cohen’s “Conflict Resolution in Northern Ireland” class wrote articles about the course and course content for a variety of newsletters and newspapers, including local Eugene news and organizations in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland. We’re really excited to post some of the articles here, and to share how this class and word about Inside-Out is spreading in the community here, and around to the other side of the world.
So here’s a link to the first article published by one of our classmates. We all felt that it was a beautiful reflection of this course, and thank Ben for his dedication and for his writing. Check out the article here: The Register-Guard. And check back on the blog–I have a feeling Ben and others will be doing some writing in the coming weeks.
Sister Helen Prejean has become a huge supporter of Inside-Out Program since being involved with the writing workshop in Oregon in October 2010. She spoke in Denver last weekend, and told the crowd:
“There are amazing things happening already: young people waking up to the real issues of social justice in the world. They have that Inside-Out Program that has college students taking classes with folks in prisons. You should see what they are doing! That’s the real power of meeting people seeing who they are and how they live. That’s how people get to new understanding.”
We’re trying to archive all the media regarding Inside-Out from across the country. If your campus newspaper or local media have published something about the program, please send us the link! We’ll post the article in the Media Archive, which will help get the word out about the program in your region, and build the narrative of Inside-Out.
This Inside-Out Program in Oregon received some excellent press this week in the magazine Oregon Quarterly. The article includes testimony from James, one of the most involved Inside alumni at the Oregon State Penitentiary.

If your local Inside-Out classes have received media coverage, please let us know so we can publicize it! Email us a link at email@example.com, or post a comment here.
